Samsung will soon connect Skype on their new high-definition televisions. The software of Internet-based calling and video conferencing service Skype will allow users to make voice calls and video calls through Samsung TV.
According to Samsung Vice-President of Visual Display Kevin Kyungshik Lee, “Our consumers want their televisions to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for entertainment and communication”.
The Samsung LED 7000 and 8000 televisions featuring the software will ship to Korea with plans to be distributed globally during the first half of the year. Skype video calls are free of charge and voice calls between Skype users will not result in a charge either. Calls to traditional landline and mobile phones will incur minimal costs.
