Facebook chat is not a new application on Facebook, but an old Facebook feature which requires Facebook account. When you sign in to your account, you are also automatically logged in to Facebook Chat interface.

To access Facebook chat, just scroll down the right side bottom of your Facebook page. You have the option to be visible or not to your friends. Facebook chat is the answer to Instant Messaging (IM).

A green dot next to someone’s name means that he is currently online and you can start a chat with him. A moon means that he hasn’t been online for at least 10 minutes.

To chat, just click on the name of someone who has a green dot next to their name. A chat box will pop up. Just type your message into the box, hit enter, and you’ve started a chat. Enjoy!
