Steve Jobs Passes Away at 56

steve-jobs-biography

Steve Jobs, Apple chairman passed away on Wednesday, October 5 at the age of 56.

The Apple Board of Directors released a statement that Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday (October 5, 2011) at the age of 56. Here’s the statement.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

You can share remembrances with Apple at rememberingsteve@apple.com. Here is a post from the eve of his stepping down as CEO.

Do not therefore consider this life as an object of any moment. Look back on the immense gulf of time already past; and forwards, to that infinite duration yet to come, and you will find how trifling the difference is between a life of three days and of three ages.

Let us then employ properly this moment of time allotted us by fate, and leave the world contentedly; like a ripe olive dropping from its stalk, speaking well of the soil that produced it, and of the tree that bore it.”

Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO in August 2011, the second time in less than 3 years that he stepped down to deal with “personal issues.”

Steve Jobs, a Buddhist, is survived by wife Laurene Powell Jobs, 47 and four children. One of his children Lisa had an early Apple computer named after her.

How to Enable Your Facebook Timeline?

timeline 2

On September 22, Mark Zuckerberg introduces the new brand feature called “Facebook Timeline,” a visual representation of your entire life.

Timeline can help you summarize all of your stories,” Zuckerberg said. Based on how far back you scroll in your Timeline, a different amount of events will be summarized including the date you were born and the day you started on Facebook.

Zuckerberg also announced that the new feature would be available in the coming weeks, but if you’re one of the users who can’t wait, there’s an easy way to enable it.

Before you do that, please take note of the following :

  • Timeline gets disabled automatically when you log in to another computer.
  • This version is only for developers so expect bugs.

Here’s the instructions :

  • First, log into Facebook
  • Enable developer mode, to do this, just type “developer” into the Facebook search box located above your profile, click the first result then add the app.
  • Next, go to developer app. In case Facebook doesn’t put you there automatically, it should be in your left-hand tool bar.
  • Create a new app. Provide any display name and namespace. Read and agree to the Platform Privacy agreement.
  • Make sure you’re in your new app’s main settings screen. You should see your app’s name near the top of the page.
  • Search for the “Open Graph” located at the mid part and click the “Get Started using open graph” link.
  • Last, make a test action for your app, like “watch” a “movie”, or “read” a “book” then click the green button that says “Get Started.”

Wait for a couple of minutes then as you go back to your homepage, you should see an invite to try Timeline. Click “Get It Now” and you’re done.

Facebook to Launch New Set of Buttons, Read, Listened, Watched & Want

facebook_like_button_big

Facebook is now planning to add new set of buttons aside from “Like.” These new buttons are “Read,” “Listened,” “Watched.”

Facebook will also launch a social commerce button named “Want” after the introduction of the Read, Listened and Watched buttons.

According to TechCrunch, “It’s unclear what will happen to the Like button and how these new buttons will affect the Like button. And we don’t know what Facebook will do with this data, but there is so much the network could do with the data from these buttons. It seems pretty obvious that ad targeting would be a huge opportunity as well as the capability of delivering a more personalized experience for users. Not to mention that brands, retailers, entertainment companies and other businesses will be able to gain segmented data around the Like.”

The new Facebook buttons is expected to be introduced at the f8 Developer Conference next week.

Steve Jobs Resignation Letter

Steve-Jobs

Steve Jobs resignation letter.

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
