Steve Jobs Passes Away at 56

steve-jobs-biography

Steve Jobs, Apple chairman passed away on Wednesday, October 5 at the age of 56.

The Apple Board of Directors released a statement that Steve Jobs passed away on Wednesday (October 5, 2011) at the age of 56. Here’s the statement.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

You can share remembrances with Apple at rememberingsteve@apple.com. Here is a post from the eve of his stepping down as CEO.

Do not therefore consider this life as an object of any moment. Look back on the immense gulf of time already past; and forwards, to that infinite duration yet to come, and you will find how trifling the difference is between a life of three days and of three ages.

Let us then employ properly this moment of time allotted us by fate, and leave the world contentedly; like a ripe olive dropping from its stalk, speaking well of the soil that produced it, and of the tree that bore it.”

Steve Jobs stepped down as Apple CEO in August 2011, the second time in less than 3 years that he stepped down to deal with “personal issues.”

Steve Jobs, a Buddhist, is survived by wife Laurene Powell Jobs, 47 and four children. One of his children Lisa had an early Apple computer named after her.

Facebook is now planning to add new set of buttons aside from “Like.” These new buttons are “Read,” “Listened,” “Watched.”

Facebook will also launch a social commerce button named “Want” after the introduction of the Read, Listened and Watched buttons.

According to TechCrunch, “It’s unclear what will happen to the Like button and how these new buttons will affect the Like button. And we don’t know what Facebook will do with this data, but there is so much the network could do with the data from these buttons. It seems pretty obvious that ad targeting would be a huge opportunity as well as the capability of delivering a more personalized experience for users. Not to mention that brands, retailers, entertainment companies and other businesses will be able to gain segmented data around the Like.”

The new Facebook buttons is expected to be introduced at the f8 Developer Conference next week.
